President & CEO, Children’s Hospital of Orange County

As the President and Chief Executive Officer of CHOC Children’s, Kimberly Chavalas Cripe leads one of the top pediatric healthcare systems in the nation. CHOC Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in California to earn the Gold Level CAPE (California Awards for Performance Excellence) Award from the California Council for Excellence (CCE). CHOC Children’s Hospital joined the elite ranks of the nation’s hospitals that have earned Magnet recognition for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and its pediatric intensive care unit is the first in the nation to be recognized with the Pediatric Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. A 2013 Leapfrog Top Hospital, CHOC Children’s was also recognized for clinical excellence by U.S. News & World Report.

Kim has been with CHOC Children’s since 1991 as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and was named President and Chief Executive Officer in 1998. Prior to joining CHOC, she was with Humana Inc. (now HCA) where she held a series of progressively responsible hospital, regional and corporate positions in areas including strategic planning, business development, physician alignment, marketing, public affairs, and hospital and health plan operations.

Kim conducted her undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California and the University of South Florida, and received her Master’s degree in Public Administration, Health Services Management, from Golden Gate University.
